Professor Prasanna Sooriakumaran

Professor Sooriakumaran graduated with a First Class degree in Human Anatomy & Cell Biology from the University of Nottingham in 1997 and then graduated from medical school with honours. He also holds a PhD in prostate cancer as well as numerous other degrees, including Masters of Arts, awarded by resolution of the University of Oxford, where he now works as a Visiting Professor in Urology. He also holds a further professorial level appointment in Urology & Robotic Surgery at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in Jodhpur, India.

Professor Sooriakumaran is a world leader in prostate cancer care and robotic surgery, being fellowship trained at Cornell University, the Karolinska Institute, and the University of Oxford. He has over 300 publications and 500 international/ national presentations, and over 30 prizes for his research and robotic surgical innovations. Moreover, he is the recipient of the Doctify Great Patient Experience Award 2025.

Professor Sooriakumaran specialises in Retzius sparing and graded nerve sparing robotic prostatectomy to improve outcomes for men requiring prostate cancer surgery, which has resulted in him being one of the Top Ten Urologists in Britain in a Daily Mail poll of UK urologists. He also made the List of London’s Most Influential People in Health, published in the Evening Standard. He held a National Clinical Excellence Award from 2019-2024 and currently holds a National Clinical Impact Award for his patient care above and beyond what is expected of an NHS consultant.
