Self-pay

Pay for the care you need, when you need it – no waiting lists, just faster access to specialists.

What is self-pay?

Self‑pay simply means covering the cost of your own care, rather than using private medical insurance. This also includes paying through a medical loan or finance plan.

Many people choose to self‑pay because it gives them:

  • freedom to choose their consultant
  • direct access to specialists without needing a GP referral (for most services)
  • faster access to appointments, tests, and treatment
  • a private healthcare option that doesn’t require insurance

Anyone is welcome to self-pay at our centre.

Please note: the information on this page applies to our specialist services only. For details about paying for GP or dental care, please visit the Bupa website.

How does self-pay work?

When you self-pay, you’ll only pay only for the services you need, when you need them.

In most cases, you won’t even need a referral from your GP. You can simply call us directly to book your appointment with a specialist.

Your consultant will invoice you directly for their time and expertise, while the centre will invoice you for any tests, scans, or procedures carried out here.

Get in touch with our Self‑Pay team on 020 4604 9393. They can answer any questions, explain pricing, and tell you whether you’ll need a GP referral.

How to self-pay

Booking your consultation

When you self‑pay, you can usually see a consultant within days. Our team will arrange an appointment at a time that works for you.

Consultation fees vary by consultant; our team will confirm the cost before booking. You’ll pay this fee directly to the consultant or their secretary once your appointment is confirmed.

Tests and scans

Your consultant may recommend tests or scans, most of which can be done on‑site.

In many cases, you can have them straight after your appointment (at an additional cost). If you need to book them later, contact the Self‑Pay team. They’ll arrange everything and confirm pricing. Payments for tests and scans are made directly to the centre.

Your consultant may also suggest a follow‑up appointment to review your results. This usually carries an additional fee.

Treatment

Once you know what treatment you need, you can call our Self‑Pay team to book:

  • If it’s available at Bupa Health Centre Canary Wharf, we’ll provide a quote.
  • If not, we can support you in arranging care at another hospital within our London network.

Follow-up care

If your care plan includes follow‑up appointments, your consultant or the Self‑Pay team will help arrange these for you.

If you have any questions or concerns at any stage, just give us a call. Our Self‑Pay team will be happy to support you.
