Private health insurance
Paying with insurance
Did you know you don’t need Bupa health insurance to visit us? We welcome patients with most major private health insurers.
Insurance policies vary, so it’s important to check with your provider that your treatment or service is covered before you book.
If you’re planning to use Bupa health insurance, please visit our dedicated page for Bupa customers.

How to use your private health insurance
Before you use your private health insurance
Most insurance companies need a referral from your GP before they will approve your first appointment. If your consultant recommends treatment or further tests, your insurer will also need to be informed. Please make sure you provide your full insurance details to the centre before or at your appointment.
We are usually able to bill your insurance company directly. However, it is your responsibility to ensure your claim is processed. If your insurer delays or refuses payment, you will be asked to pay the outstanding amount yourself.
We ask all patients to provide credit or debit card details when booking an appointment. Your card will only be used if there are outstanding charges (for example, those not covered by your insurance).
Your consultant will charge separately for their services. This may be billed directly to your insurance company or sent to you. Your consultant’s secretary can explain how this will work.
Visit your GP
Depending on your insurance policy, you may need to visit your GP to receive a referral.
It doesn’t matter whether you see an NHS or private GP. Simply request a referral to your preferred consultant.
If you’re not sure who you’d like to see, you can ask your GP for an open referral so you can choose later.
Request pre-authorisation
Contact your private health insurer to request pre‑authorisation. This can often be done online.
You will usually be authorised for an initial consultation and any diagnostic tests your consultant recommends. If treatment is needed, you may need to contact your insurer again for further approval.
Make sure to check exactly what your policy covers to avoid unexpected charges.
Once approved, your insurer will issue an authorisation code for you to use at the centre.
Book your consultation
When you have your authorisation code, call 0204 604 9394 to book your appointment. We’ll ask for your code and insurance details, so make sure you’ve got those ready.
If you’re unsure which consultant to choose, our team will be happy to guide you.
Please note: we will ask you to provide credit or debit card details at point of booking. Your card will be used to settle any outstanding charges after your appointment.
Payment and excess
If your policy includes an excess, you’ll need to settle this with either your insurer, the centre, or your consultant. This will be detailed in your insurance policy.
FAQs
Depending on your insurance policy, you may need a referral from your GP. You will need to confirm this with your insurance provider before your appointment.
If you’re using Bupa health insurance, you may get direct access to certain services. For more information, please visit our dedicated page.
Not all insurance policies cover the same services. You should always check with your insurer exactly what’s included to avoid unexpected charges.
Please call us on 0204 604 9300 as soon as you can.
We’ll advise whether you can still be seen or if your appointment needs to be rearranged.
It depends on your insurer. Many insurers have a list of preferred consultants for you to choose from. If you want complete freedom to choose who you see, you can self‑pay instead.
Most insurers will authorise diagnostic tests recommended after your first consultation, but you may need to request pre‑authorisation again. Always confirm with your insurer before booking.
Once you have your authorisation code, call 0204 604 9394 and our team will book your consultation. Please have your code and insurance details ready.
You won’t need to pay for anything upfront at the centre. This is because we invoice your insurance company. However, if your policy includes an excess, you’ll need to pay this.
