How to use your Bupa health insurance

Visit your GP

For most conditions, you’ll need a GP referral. It doesn’t matter whether this is NHS or private. You can see a Bupa GP quickly and easily via the app.

If you’re worried about cancer or MSK symptoms, you might not need a referral. Call 0345 609 0111 and one of Bupa’s trained advisors will explain next steps.

Request pre-authorisation

Once you have your referral, contact Bupa to request pre‑authorisation. You can do this via the Bupa app, phone, or online.

You’ll usually receive approval for an initial consultation and any diagnostic tests your consultant recommends. If treatment is required, you’ll need to request further approval.

Once authorised, you’ll receive a code to use at the centre.

Book your consultation

When you have your authorisation code, call 020 4604 9394 to book your appointment. We’ll ask for your code and insurance details, so make sure you’ve got those ready.

If you’re unsure which consultant to see, our team can help you choose.

Payment and excess

You won’t need to pay the centre directly for insured services – we’ll invoice Bupa on your behalf.

If your policy includes an excess, you’ll need to settle this directly with Bupa as outlined in your policy.
