Mr Abhi Parikh is a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon, appointed in 2003 to St Mary’s Hospital, London, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He qualified in medicine in 1982 from Grant Medical College, University of Mumbai — at the time the oldest and largest of Mumbai’s medical schools — and went on to complete a Master of Surgery in Otolaryngology (MS) at the University of Mumbai in 1986. He moved to the United Kingdom in 1988 to pursue structured subspecialty otolaryngology training, undertaking his higher surgical training on the North Thames rotation, with his registrar and specialist registrar years based largely at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS) in 1991 and the specialty fellowship in Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (FRCS ORL-HNS) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow in 2001.
Mr Parikh subsequently completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the Institute of Laryngology and Otology, University College London, awarded by the University of London in 2007. His doctoral research examined intranasal lysine-aspirin in patients with aspirin-sensitive and aspirin-tolerant nasal polyposis, work published in the New England Journal of Medicine, and he has an extensive record of peer-reviewed publications in journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet and the British Medical Journal.
Mr Parikh’s clinical interests span the full breadth of general adult and paediatric otolaryngology, with particular expertise in otology – including the surgical management of chronic ear infections, otosclerosis, tympanoplasty and ossiculoplasty; in rhinology – including nasal polyps, chronic rhinosinusitis, allergic and non-allergic rhinitis, and endoscopic sinus surgery. He is affiliated to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, ENT UK and the British Medical Association.
