About Dr Filip Zemrak

Dr Filip Zemrak is a Consultant Cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre, St Bartholomew’s Hospital (Barts Health NHS Trust), and an Honorary Professor at University College London (UCL). He obtained his medical degree (MD) in 2006 from the Medical University of Lodz, Poland, before continuing his training in the United Kingdom. He completed specialist Cardiology Training in North-East London and was appointed Consultant Cardiologist in 2020.

Dr Zemrak holds a PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences from Queen Mary University of London (2017), which focused on cardiomyopathy and was conducted in partnership with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, United States. He has co-authored over 45 peer-reviewed articles in cardiology and cardiovascular science, with more than 4,500 citations. He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP).

His clinical expertise encompasses adult congenital cardiac conditions (ACHD), heart failure, cardiac rhythm management, and advanced cardiac implantable devices. He leads the complex pacing service at Barts Heart Centre and is one of the UK’s leading specialists in implantable cardiac devices – leadless pacing and left bundle branch area pacing (LBBAP), as well as implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation and cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT). He also holds extensive expertise in the management of hypertension, preventive cardiology, and anticoagulation.

Dr Zemrak was awarded a prestigious National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Darzi Fellowship in 2017 and has been awarded a European Society of Cardiology grant to pursue a Masters in Health Economics at the London School of Economics. He has presented evidence to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Defibrillators and is an active contributor to national and international cardiology research, clinical governance, and quality improvement.
